Hello!! We are so sorry for not posting frequently! The last few weeks have been insane! We are officially moved in, unpacked, and living in our new HOUSE! We have plenty of fun and not so fun memories to share about our move.
Wednesday, July 2, we both took a half day off work to go close on our new house. While I was waiting for Jim to get home, Gus (our cute little wiener dog) jumps of the couch like usual and starts to limp. Being the typical drama queen that I am, I freak out! I call Jim hysterical saying, "Gussers broke his leg, we have to go close, AHH what do we do?" Jim was like "Chill, Liz, he is fine." Luckily, our amazing, dachshund obsessed friend, Stephanie, came to sit with him while we closed.
After closing we went to Home Depot to buy a refridgerator. YAY, our first major appliance purchase! We got a sweet deal. A stainless steel side by side for on sale from $1800 to $1400. I wanted a different brand, but Jim wasn't going to budge. The price said $1400 on the fridge, but rang up for $1000. On top of that we got 10% off, and a $15o gift card to Home Depot. We were pretty excited. We took the random stuff we purchased to the house and turned on the air so it would be cool when we started the moving process later on that evening. Then we went home to a hurt dog who was very pathetic and decided to take him to the vet. $300 later he ended up being fine, but we gave him some very nice drugs that knocked him out for our move.
Wednesday evening after an afternoon of CHAOS we began loading our boxes, nic naks, pictures, lamps, tvs, and clothes up to take to the house. With the help of Kate we took our first load over to our house where we found out that our AC was not functioning. Weird... we did not think much about it. We noticed that the breaker was tripped and we reset it, thinking that we would be coming home to a cool house. We go to get a second load and got EVERYTHING but furniture. We only finished on this trip because we had an awesome team made up of the Eppes with there HUGE Tahoe and the Georges plus our 2 vehicles. When we got home at 10:00 p.m. to move our stuff in, we finally came to the conclusion our AC was fried.
Thursday morning we woke up at 6 a.m. to start the day. We pick up the Penske truck at 7 a.m. to finish bringing over the furniture and pick up the refrigerator. We were incredibly blessed with the George's help AGAIN and could not have done it with out them. Jason and Jim moved all the furniture over while Stephanie and I unpacked boxes, and waited on the Comcast and alarm installers. This entire time we were working in 90 degree heat. INSIDE! That morning we made the phone call to our warranty company who scheduled someone that did not arrive until Friday evening. Considering the unbearable heat and ridiculous humidity, we slept at the George's that night.
Friday, my parents came in town with a whole other truck load of furniture and to help unpack. At 11:00 a.m., still no AC and no AC guy to be found. At 4 p.m. the AC guy, who was seriously under qualified for anything concerning electricity or home cooling, finally shows up and tells us the compressor is busted. He told us that he could not order the part until Monday from our warranty company who would then probably take another 4 days to get the part in! WHAT?!?! We freaked and were so upset. So that meant probably another 4 days with out AC. What were we to do? We went and bought a window unit for a hundred bucks. My parents and us all in one room at night so we could sleep comfortably then sweat ALL day while working around house.
Sunday before my parents left, Jim goes to hook up the washer/dryer. Uh Oh... our dryer hook up is for gas and we have an electric dryer! We felt that after having a few electricians come out and give us an estimate and then take the time off of work to be at the house when he was there, it was better just to get a new set. Especially considering the fact that the Comcast contractor was here for 12 hours trying to install cable in our less than accessible walls. We got some that stack to help us create some room in the small garage. They are so great!
Needless to say this was a very, very eventful move. We can now laugh (a little bit) and we will definitely always always remember this time in our lives!! My parents were such good sports to continue helping us (probably because this kind of stuff happens in my family ALL the time). Between them and Jim's family, we pretty much have a fully furnished house. It meant so much to us to have them here experiencing this time in our life and we are so grateful. We were all unpacked, organized and things hung in 3 days because of them. Love you Mom and Dad, your the best!
We will post pictures of the final outcome tonight!
After the move Elizabeth went to Indiana for 4 days, we have had a house warming party and more eventful house stories have occurred.
